Chapter 19
After the shower, they dressed up quickly. Angela noticed that Dave was turning his back to her intentionally not to look at her dressing up. He didn’t want to get aroused again obviously. She smirked feeling flattered. She never thought she would have such an affect on a guy. She knew she had a nice body with a pretty face but being with the same old partner for a long time made her forget that. Her husband hadn’t made her feel this way since they were engaged. Men would do anything until they got into your pants, wouldn’t they?
Then she helped Dave to clean up the mess. They made the bed, closed the curtains, tidied up the bathroom. She took the mugs with the remains of chips and chocolate cream down to the kitchen and washed them quickly. Dave came down after her and asked if she needed any help.
“I don’t think we can leave the house until tomorrow morning if I let you help me Dave.” she giggled reminding him his help offer in the bathroom.
“Ok I was just asking.” He chuckled as he held up his hands in defense.
When the kitchen was done, she went upstairs to check if she left anything there. Dave followed her wondering if she would notice her wedding ring not being where she left it the previous night.
She came out of the bathroom and looked back at the room one last time then turned to Dave:
“I’m ready.” She passed him and headed downstairs without noticing the smile that grew on his face…

Before she got into the car, she turned to look at the house, her eyes found the bedroom window. She tasted so much pleasure with the other wonderful feelings that she couldn’t name in that house in such a short period of time. It was like a dream. All those moments would have a special place in her heart forever. She jumped slightly at Dave’s touch on the small of her back as he opened the door for her.
Once they got into the car, Dave turned on the radio but no stations were available. It was normal cause their phones were out too. He hoped to catch a signal as they got close to the city so Angela could call her mother.
The drive went in silence. Angela slightly turned to him and watched him driving. He seemed concentrated on the road. She wondered what was in his mind? Was he thinking about her? She was sure that he was happy with what they did in bed. But his thoughts about her as a person, not just a bed partner, was more precious to her. Why was he silent? Just because he was driving?
The questions were running through her mind as she felt her eyelids got heavy. She fell asleep. Dave turned his head to find her sleeping. She had long eyelashes and they were even more beautiful when her eyes were closed. He smiled as he gently stroked her cheek with the back of his hand and let her rest.
Dave checked his phone every five minutes and he finally caught a signal. He hated doing that but he had to wake her up.
“Angela… Angela…” he caressed her hair slowly. She shifted in her seat and murmured without opening her eyes.
“Mmmm… Dave…”
The first thing she said was his name. He couldn’t help the smirk appeared on his face. She rubbed her eyes and looked at him smiling.
“I’m sorry I fell asleep.”
“It’s ok sweetheart. Besides you’ve slept only for twenty or twenty-five minutes.”
“Good. I don’t want to spend the rest of my time with you sleeping.” The words just came out of her mouth without thinking. His smile grew wider.
“I watched you sleeping, it wasn’t a waste of time for me.” he said as he softly caressed her cheek making her blush slightly. His thumb trailed the outline of her bottom lip. “But I had to wake you up cause I finally caught a signal. Call your mom sweetheart.” He dropped his hands to hold hers tightly. How wonderful it was to feel his warm strong hands entwined hers.
But she had to let them go as she took her purse and fished for her phone. She was disappointed as she realised that she had no charge.
“Oh no! I’m out of charge.” She pouted.
“No problem, take mine.” He handed her his phone. As she reached out her left hand to take his phone, she realised that her wedding ring wasn’t where it was supposed to be.
“Shit! My wedding ring… I left it in your house Dave. We have to go back to take it.”
He didn’t seem concerned or turn the car back to his house cause he had already planned this. He calmly said:
“I thought you wouldn’t put it on again.” he looked at her. He wondered what she was gonna do with her ring. Cause it wasn’t just a ring. It was the symbol of the commitment to her husband. That’s why it was important to him to know.
“No, I won’t. It doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. It just reminds me that I’m a woman who is stabbed on the back by the person that vowed to love me ‘till death do us part’ ” she said the last bit sarcastically.
Her words touched his heart. Maybe for the first time ever he realised what a woman felt when she was cheated on. He cheated on his wives many times, except for number three. When he got out of his ‘black and blue period’, he was regret for being a cheating selfish bastard and he never did that again. But now he felt bad again because she actually confessed what it felt like to be cheated on by the man she trusted with all her heart.
“Then why do you want to get it back?” he asked.
“Because I don’t want your wife to find it and go through what I felt when I busted my husband with a woman in our bed. I don’t know your wife, maybe you are right about her being an annoying woman I don’t know, you said you want to divorce but that doesn’t mean she deserves that. No women deserve that. I know exactly what she will feel when she finds another woman’s ring in her bedroom where she shared so many things with her husband, bad or good it doesn’t matter. I knew your marriage was already over in your heart when you told me about her yesterday. That’s why I don’t feel guilty about sleeping with you. But my husband and I have been a good couple. We have never had a big serious problem and there is still nothing to force him to go after another woman.” She paused and chuckled sarcastically; “Except for his needs for some porn stuff in bed.” Then she turned to him again. “It’s just she doesn’t have to know because it will hurt her like hell although you two are at the edge of a divorce. You don’t love each other anymore but that doesn’t mean she deserves such a humiliation.”
Dave was stunned. He was simply amazed! How on earth could someone be so sensitive about other people’s feelings? She was right. He wouldn’t want his wife to think that the father of their daughter is a cheating selfish bastard, has nerves to take another woman to their bed. He was sure that she had never cheated on him, he hadn’t even suspected for once, so she wouldn’t deserve such a heartache.
“Do you have an idea about what a wonderful person you are?” he said, his voice was full of admiration.
“Me?” her cheeks turned red slightly. “Thanks Dave, but trust me; being wonderful, as you said, is no good for me at all. Because in the end; I’m the one who gets burnt always.” She smiled sadly.
“I’ve never thought you would say such a thing when I stole your ring” he absentmindedly said.
“You did what?” she turned to him, her eyes wide open.
He smiled like a little boy whose mom caught him with his hand in the cookie jar. He shoved his hand into his pocket and gave her her ring.
She couldn’t believe it. She wouldn’t think Dave was up to something like this, steal her ring literally. Not that she was angry at him, she just didn’t know the reason why?
“Why did you do that?”
“I just wanted to know what you would do when you realised it wasn’t on your finger.”
It was basically a test and she would normally get angry against this. But surprisingly she wasn’t angry at him at all (how could she while he was giving her a gorgeous smile?) and actually found it cute. Maybe he was wondering if she was strong enough to leave her husband behind and go after a new relationship.
“So? Did I pass the test?” She asked playfully, which made Dave blush more.
“No it wasn’t a test. Sorry, I know it was childish.” He was embarrassed of what he did. Especially after what Angela said about his wife.
“You didn’t answer my question.” She asked again grinning.
“Ok, you passed. Actually what you said was beyond my expectations.” He held her hands tightly and looked at her eyes trying not to lose his control on the wheel. There was warmness and admiration in his eyes.
She looked down at their hands and saw he wasn’t wearing his own ring either.
“Is your ring in your pocket too?” she asked giggling.
“How did you know?” he asked pretended to be surprised which made Angela laugh harder. He took it and looked at the golden material as his expression got serious again. “But I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it.”
“It has so many memories right?”
“Yes, good and bad. We sure had good times with my wife and when I think about those times I feel terrible. Who wants his marriage to end up like ours? Or like yours?”
She stayed silent as she turned and looked out of the window. The ocean was calm and the sunset made it look incredibly beautiful, glistening.
“But we can save the good memories.” She said still looking at the blue water. “Dave, pull the car aside.”
“What’s wrong? Are you ok?”
Angela smiled as he sounded worried. She knew he really meant it. He was so sweet.
“I’m ok, don’t worry. Just do it, please.”
The worried look on Dave’s face replaced with a naughty smirk as he remembered what happened when she asked him to do the same the night before.
“You remember what you did after you asked me to pull the car aside last night, don’t you?” he was grinning.
Of course she remembered! She wanted him to take her to his bed and fuck her!
Angela blushed but couldn’t help her naughty giggles.
“I don’t mean it this time Dave.”
Dave pouted. Oh god he was so adorable. “Oh I thought maybe we could …” he didn’t finish the sentence.
“Aw I’m sorry Dave, it wasn’t what I was thinking.” she tried to sound sorry for Dave but she was biting her cheek not to laugh.
He did what she wanted and followed her after she got out of the car. She walked to the cliff. Dave followed her wondering what she was gonna do? Oh no, was she going to jump off the cliff?
“Remember what I told you about saving the good memories?” she asked looking at him right in the eye. “I know a place where they will stay forever without someone touching them.” Then she looked at the ocean lying in front of her. She took her ring and looked at it; the day they met, first sex, his marriage proposal, their honeymoon flashed before her eyes for a moment although her husband destroyed all of them by cheating on her. Then she threw it down the cliff. Now all the good memories of her marriage were lying under the cool waters of the ocean.
Dave watched the little burial ceremony in silence. He was sure that Angela had a very deep personality which was more than what she let the outside world see. He felt happy as she showed him a part of her soul. But at the same time it scared him.
He put his hand gently on her arm and turned her around to face her.
“How do you feel now?” his voice was soft.
“Like a single woman again.” She smiled at him. She felt relaxed.
He looked down at his own wedding ring. He never thought about doing such a thing like Angela had just done but he felt it was the best thing to do. He was about to say goodbye to nine-year of his life.
“Goodbye Jen.” He murmured then threw the golden band into the water. She knew it was hard for him too. He was talking about how sick and tired he was of his wife’s whinings or meaningless behaviours, but in the end he once was in love with her. She held his hands and looked at his eyes smiling, giving him an understanding look. He parted his lips slightly as if he intended to say something.
Come on Dave, this is the perfect moment! Say it!
But instead he pulled her close to him and kissed her. He held her tightly in his arms, kissing her desperately. But that didn’t cheer her up as she felt disappointed for not hearing what she was expecting to hear from his beautiful lips.
