Chapter 2

Chapter.II.

I  gripped his hands and helped him up to his feet.

He was  standing in front of me a little out of balance and shaky.

For a start wipping the blood off his face seemed a good idea, so I pulled off my kitted gloves and tried to clean his face. He let me do so standing quietly and looking at me. The events  took a surrealistic turn at some point, can't recall when. As the gloves hasn't helped much and I haven't had hankies I continued the cleaning with my bare hands.

There was it, his blood on my hands, as if I tried to kill my cheating lover, or what. I was watching the blood dripping down from my fingers amazed by its rich crimson colour. He got a hold of my hand and said with a lopsided smile: What if we would continue save faces?

I was beginning to laugh with relief. He leaned to a larch and turned his face, now I could see a cut which was running from the side of his lips to his ears and was bleeding heavily. It's not acute pneumonia at least I thought merrily as I was thinking of ways to stop the bleeding.

I must be out of my mind, to be happy he has a bleeding wound.

No equipments, no bandages, no nothing. Then let's work with what we have, my bare hands again.

Are you all right, I mean regarding the circumstances, I asked him shyly.

Well, I'm fine, just damned tired and weak from wandering in the forest all night.

Yepp, that's what I did, too.

It's said walk makes good for your health he said whinning a bit as I placed my three fingers on to the open wound and pushed it hard to close the arteria facialis which was teared open.

Can you be a bit more gentle, he asked.

At other times, yes, but not now. Wanna prevent your precious body liquids making a puddle under you. By the way have you seen any moss somewhere around?

Well, let me think, we always can ask the bear I spent the night with, he joked.

Good, you haven't lost your peculiar sense of humour yet, so we can survive.

What do you mean by peculiar?

I ordered him to stay where he was and I pressed his own hands to the wound.

Don't do this to me, it's bleeding, I'm soaked in my own blood.

Be happy, it's yours, just look at my hands, I'm looking like a butcher. Don't move, don't take your hands off the wound, will you?

                Where are you going?

I bring a starbuck coffee for the two of us, I know you like it.

As I ventured into the forest I thought something else.

Come with me into the trees I sang to him much to my suprise.

He stared at me dumbly then started to laugh his ass off. He was laughing so hard he bent in two forgetting his wound, then I stepped to him and put my hand onto his face again.

Oh My, you're killing me, and it's me who has a peculiar sense of humour!

Look, I've found moss at last, wait here and  I jumped into a bush, collecting moss from dead tree trunks. When I got enough in my hands I stuffed all my pockets with it knowing I would have a good use of it soon.

After I was back from my little trip into the bushes I kneeled down to him because he was sitting on a trunk.

The bleeding was still heavy, but I wasn't worried anymore, I have found him, though he was wounded he wasn't dead or severly damaged and now that I have moss nothing can go wrong.

Or so I thought.

I knew from my former medical experiences and from Ray Smears' Bushcraft that moss would stop bleeding almost at an instant. I sat close beside him pressed the green stuff onto his face and embraced him with my other arm, he was shivering with cold.

I must find some place as a refuge for us, he is weak from the bloodloss and the shock, besides he  needs to drink a lot to compensate the loss of body liquid. We must find water or melt snow, and we should make a fire.

Or, it's me who  should, as I saw him dozing off resting his head on my shoulders.

I should go and collect stuff what we can use for surviving from the place the filming was held.

I looked at his peaceful face, combed his hair from his eyes and kept on caressing him. Now, c'mon I should have a look around, who knows what I might find.  I have to stand up and go if I want to continue this madness called my life and let him continue his, by the way.  Just one caress and you and I blessed...

I was wondering if my iPod still worked, and it did. I started to listen to it as I made him lay on my coat which I put on the huge trunk we were sitting on hoping he won't fall down. I looked for fir branches and covered him, it would kind of protect him from the snow as it started snowing lightly.

I collected more branches and placed them onto the snow in front of him forming letters: Don't worry, I'l be back soon, stay here!

It wasn't easy leaving him behind like that, but what else could I do? I was praying to find him unharmed when I would be back.  I have to sign my way somehow to lead me back to him.

I descended on the steep slope until I found the first sign of  yesterday's events, an orange bong.

The whole thing became more and more surrealistic. I picked it up nevertheless, maybe it would prove to be useful in starting an other avalanche, haha.

Me and my sick jokes.

I should find something I can start a fire with, some food and drinks, blankets or other stuff to cover ourselves, it would be cold in the night. Perhaps there are others who are still alive. A cell phone would come in handy, too. A working cellphone, I tried mine and it was dead, there is no chance to charge it.

It could be David has a working cellphone, if there is signal strenght at all in the shadows of these enermous mountains.

David, David, hmmm....I must hurry up, how much time could have  passed already?

I kept on searching for more useful stuff than a bong.

I reached the body of the woman died yesterday, I thought I clear the snow off her body to help the rescue team notice the place where this dreadful event happened. I had to take it into consideration that maybe it'd be useless as by now it started snowing heavily. The sky was grey loaded with huge clouds of snow, it didn't promised any good. If the weather conditions are not right the rescuers won't  catch the sight of us, let alone landing.

Hard terrain to lead a search on anyway, mountain ridges are following each other endlessly, the only certain data I knew was that ,we are near the Mount Cook and this is a highly guarded National Park, a wildlife sanctuary.

The DM staff brought us fans here by a military airplane monstrum which was as big we could have played bowling inside. We took part in a competition and five of us were chosen as  winners who could be in the new video, we all got parts to play and text to memorise. There was a rehearsal at the time when disaster strucked.

It seemed everybody was swept by it, except Dave, me and the unfortunate woman who was lying beside me. I went on with the quest for useful equipments, my lucky star led me, 'cause I found a trailer on it's side, but with the door open so maybe I could crawl inside.

  This heaven beckoned me enticingly.

I grasped the nettle and I was in, it was dark and all I could see were only the silhouttes of the objects inside, so I tried to make some light by tear the broken window open.

I noticed a couple of packs of bottled mineral water and a lilac box , it seemed it is some kind of food, maybe cookies. I lifted it up from the ground and it was Belgian choc.

I became suspicious, chocs hmmm, chocs mark the spot x.

Maybe, it is Dave's trailer, I continued looking for food and clues.

I also found a black Adidas sportbag packed with  jeans and t-shirts, funny ones, I've got big parts, girls kicking ass, getting out of responsibility in at least three colours, these must be his clothes. I checked them out, size 48us, his size, all right, now I knew I was in the cave of my kind monster, a living monster, thanks God.

I spotted a sleeping bag, mummy was its label, like in a bad horror movie.

It is possible that Dave has a knife, I hope so.

He hasn't got a gun, I'm sure, not nowadays.

There were a Zippo lighter with three packs of fine Egyiptian  cigarette, I put them into my pocket, somebody would be grateful for them.

There wasn't any serious knife found, only a rather small Swiss army one and I found a scissors, too.

In the corner more packs of things were crowded, I was started to sort them out. A warm jacket, black nail polish and eyeliner, I never got used to them.  A box of Cleenex, chips, cokes, magazines, the usual stuff.

A Cellphone, hope it's working,an iPod, later I should find out what kind of music is favoured by my Prince Charming.

Also leather belts and another sleeping bag.

Not bad, not bad at all.

I tried to pack everything into the sportbag and didn't succed. Tried again and the jacket and sleeping bags fastened with the belts did the trick, now I was able to move the whole pack around.

I climbed out through the door and jumped down onto the ground. I left the pack next to the trailer and went around.

The snowfall turned into  a blizzard while I was searching for things inside. I looked up to the sky, I have to hurry up, we can't spend another night without protection in the freezing snow or we would  be dead by the dawn of the next day.

Also, the severe stormy wind can cause another avalanche, a frightening prospect.

This means we have to move on, it supposedly would save us, but would it? The rescue team will look for us in this place and near of it. We have to move upper on the slope where the snow is thinner because of the constant wind, only it would be colder there, too. And icier maybe with ice caves.

What should we do, I'd better ask David what he thinks of the whole situation.

I should return to him right now.

Before departure I have to find something which would work as stiches to hold the edges of his wound together or it would start bleeding again and again. A huge black mass I saw on my way here came to my mind, perhaps it's a jeep and I can find a first aid kit.

It was a jeep, indeed, partially covered with snow.

I spotted a leg under the car but I didn't want to know anymore who it was belonged to.

I forced its boot open and there was the first aid kit and a rope and a shovel and a blanket, a real treasure. I searched for more as I was in need something it would help me drag the whole stuff up to the hill, back to David. Is there a canvas inside the boot? I didn't think it so.

And of course there wasn't. I couldn't have been as lucky as that after all.

An idea came into my mind, I can place everything on to an open sleepping bag, can tie everything together and I would solved the riddle already.

That's  exactly what I did.

I turned my steps backward struggling with the deep snow. It was cold still I was panting just like when doing my pilates exercises.

I had to stop several times to catch my breath. I sat down, then lay down into the snow, the icy snow was hitting my face and hands constantly, I wanted nothing but sleep. I dozed off and awaked to a loud cry, somebody was shouting.

Then silence.

It must have been  hallucination of a kind I thought, when you are worn out, shocked, hungry and dehidrated anything could occur, you see and hear things you never did before.

I tried to stand up but all my limbs went numb, tried to shout and couldn't.

 Then darkness fell on me.

When I opened my eyes I was sort of laying in a car David holding me in his arms.

Then nothing again for a while.

Then David's face again, and then it stayed like that.

David stayed and I stayed and the situation stayed....

What are you doing here, I warned you to stay there, I told you so,  an other possible avalanche could have happened, I whispered in a trembling voice.

Let's say your knight came to save you from the evil dragon, that's it.

My knight. You wanted to say my king, didn't you.?

I was shaking in my whole body and was thirsty beyond all.

I felt hot and it wasn't David, it was the high fever I had.

Don't you talk, you almost passed away, you need a rest.

              Water, I moaned.

Here you are, hon. Careful, careful!

I sipped a big one and started chuckling. He patted my back.

Stay calm, please. Just try to lie in my arms motionless.

               Emotionless?- I asked dizzily.

No, it's not nessesary, you  have your right to your feelings, he said softly.

If you take me, I also struggle with my feelings, but the strongest now is the gratitude and relief. I want to thank you that you helped me.

Hadn't you come, I would lie frozen in my own blood, thank you again.

This time it was him who kept caressing me. And it was my turn to feel gratitude.

A rush of love swept over me, I couldn't help myself but loving him.
