Chapter-IV.

             The next day came with temperature rising, snow melting and strange noises out of nowhere. We weren't able to locate the source of the crackling sound, sometimes it was like it came right from the ground under our feet, sometimes it was just a distant echo.

Then David said this is the icelayer breaking to pieces under the snow, he said it started to melt.

Now we had to go.

            Fine, but where to?

In which directions and how far?

 It didn't matter.

We started packing  our precious lifesaving equipments. Meantime, two quite large rucksacks were found which we could carry on our backs, plus a makeshift sledge for each of us to transport the reserve, mainly cans filled with gas, a little food and not much more. Altough we found several items to aid our surviving they weren't enough by far.

 David came to me silently: Are you ready?

 I nodded and fear was in my eyes.

               Do you have any plans ?

       Yes, Mauka, now I take you to Shangri-la, you wanted to trek in the Himalaya, didn't you?

It's almost the same, people pay huge amounts for adventure tourism, now I make it free for you.

         Dave, I don't feel like joking right now.

         I know, I know.  I can see the panic in your eyes. I am frightened as well. Panicking is useless.   It's no good, doesn't help at all. Hon, you were so brave, made the right decisions at the right times, we are through so much.

        Exactly.  Too much, it just suddenly became too much for me, I sobbed. I am worn out and distressed, I'm not sure I have the strenght to make any more efforts.

        Sure you have, you are did well until now. And if you don't have the strenght and the will I will take you on my back.

            I would like too see it, King Dave in the snow instead of a deck chair carries an insane devotee of his on his back, alternative version of Enjoy The silence, this is enjoy madness. Fans would love it.

       Have you said devotee, so you are a devotee of mine, he teased me, but triumphant satisfaction was in his smile, an arrogant, wicked, little smile.

God, how much I liked it.

       Wasn't this clear for you until now, I almost died for you.

He didn't laughed at all, not at the least.

       Now, this is not funny. You almost died, indeed.  You don't laugh at death.

His eyes were bleak, his face gloomy. Who knew what was in his mind.

       Come here,he called me as I was sitting on a rock, but I didn't move.

I was determined to be bold, to try my will against his, to resist him.

He approached me, tried to embrace me, but I didn't let him. My sight was fixed at the ground and I sat there stubbornly without  a move.

He stayed there and stared at me. He didn't understand this moodyness, stepped from his one leg to the other meekly.

I almost started to feel sorry for him.

But I could stand still and was ready to wait for the end of the world. I'd captured his disturbed look. Clearly, he wasn't get used to hearing a no to his request. I saw sudden changes in his look, he became tense as a string in an instrument, then his look milded, then there was a hint of guilt, then stubborness, then there was the will to accept me as I am.

He didn't want to change me now, he took it as it came.

 He said nothing just sat down by my side. We were sitting there as we had all the time in the world. He was humming a song, he started singing softly: You lost, little girl...and I didn't dare to move, didn't dare  to look at him, I forgot breathing.

The song was louder now, he bowed his head poking the snow with a stick, his low voice was carried away by the wind, echoed back from the mountains around.

I felt hypnotised, I felt paralysed and I knew I have found heaven.

          Then he looked up and noticed the awe on my face, he took my hand gently in his and asked me: If I continue singing for you would you come then?

He hadn't got any answer but the amazment was sticked on my face.

 He was watching me closely, then leaned over me and kissed me firmly pressing his lips against mine and forced my lips  open, hadn't he held me with one of his armes I'd have fallen down.

         Is it any better now, would you follow me, he asked me after a long kiss which was hotter than all the burning flames in hell.

        Yes, I would if I could, but what you have done to me!

My heart is aching, my body is burning, my head is shaking, my head is turning.

        So, you want me now, he closed my words with a brilliant smile.

Without hesitation I answered yes to him.

         I think you listen to too much Depeche Mode, it is not healthy, attacks your brain he told me with a solemn face.

I hadn't realised he was teasing me and started to protect DM music against him.

 How absurd! 

He was sitting there with such a contented smile on his manly face like a tomcat who'd won all the kitties' love in its street. Then I saw his grinning face and stopped.

       David, I started, David....

        Hush, Dave put his finger onto my lip.

But I went on with it, David.....

       Hush, Mau, please, don't speak. I understand it, I understand your emotions.

       No, I don't think so ,I yelled and jumped on to my feet.

He looked startled and alerted.

        Run David, run, we'd run for our lives!

                 A huge crushing sound came and at the peak something started to move swiftly.

     I tried  not let panic  takeing over me, but I wasn't able to move. He grabbed my hands and started pulling me. We ran down as fast as we could.

When we reached the middle of the slope we started to grab our things quickly, fixed them with the rope and ran, then we were slidding  just fast enough to avert the upcoming avalanche, we reached the trees, but they hadn't keep the danger away, it came with such a speed as an express.

              Jump!- shouted David and I obeyed him.

 We were in a narrow ravine which was protected by the avalanche, huge rocks kept us out of harms way. I was covered with new cuts and bruises, I was crying in pain. Dave was covering me with his body, we didn't dare to move.

The avalanche swept away everything upper on the slope , nothing remained, it was a narrow escape for us. David sat up and was listening into the air, a faint roaming still was hearable, then nothing.

Silence fell upon us.  Now he was watching my wounds.

           Are you in great pain?- he asked.

            It's ok, I can cope with it. Where are our stuff, is it landed here?

           Oh, yes, without one piece missing.

            What about you, are you in one?

            Yepp, no more injuries, I fly like  birds.

            Your wings have saved you, haven't they?

You see, it was so cute, your singing on the rock, I love it so much. You like Doors, hmmm. I think your next track could be the Riders Of The Storm, look up.

And there was it, Mother Nature brand new blizzard, heavier than the previous one.

           We have to find shelter right about now, said Davey and took a wrinkled piece of paper out of his pocket, it seemed a travel brossure to me. I could see the title and the first lines, it was a travel's company offer of exclusive holidays in New Zealand.

            Isn't it early planning your holiday, yet, I asked.

            No, look here is Mount Cook showed me a photo on the leaflet, and look up here is Mount Cook.

            David, I started patiently, as I had talked to a three year old, the time and place is not right to activities you're doing right now. Let's go!

         Wait a minute and trust me.

         That's what I do, put all my trust in you.

He looked up from the paper, you do it right, he said. Look, here, he showed around us, it is a nature's reservoir, there are endengeared species living here, protected by the law.

I became somewhat impatient, though I tried to hide my feelings from him.

 He went on.

            This means, no one, no tourists, no rangers, no one would come to this area. We are on our own. This means we can't ask help from anyone ,neither on the ground, nor through air, as no cell phones, no radio is working. Only we can be in charge for our lives, the two of us should solve this problem.

           I  see no problem David, I have my full trust in you.

          No, I said the two of us, we have to cooperate. I need you. You are stronger than you think, as you trust in me, I trust in you. Do you understand me, I need you!

        Yes, I whisperred and thank you.

 We had a close eyecontact. We looked into each other's eyes for a long time.

What does he want I wondered. How should I interprete his words.

 Very soon I've learnt it.

         You shouldn't say a word, I can see fathoms of love in your eyes. You can say whatever you want, you can state the opposite, you can't lie with your body language, believe me I speak it fluently. There's nothing wrong with wanting me. It is mutual Mau, no mistake in it. You'd better give in.

         I bowed my head, I die in shame, I am transparent to you, I answered solemnly.

         And don't think it is wrong, don't. I know what disturbes you, we are tied by our responsibilities, but think twice, you afraid of messing with our families, but also you can make someone happy. I feel loved when I am with you. You sensed this eternal  solitude in me as I can feel it in you, too. Two pieces of a match. The eternal outsiders longing to be loved. There is nothing wrong with it, nothing. I want you in my arms, do what I couldn't do today. Let me have my way with you.

I said nothing just let him pull me inward to a secluded cave which was dark and relatively warm.

 With great difficulties we made a fire using magazines to lit it up, when  it succedded we threw some branches onto the fire.

 As the flames grew higher so did our lust. Desire made us crazy. I didn't feel the cold, I wasn't feeling myself uncomfortable, I loved him as well as I could.

Then the pleasure took away our pain as a bullet through our brains.

It was so primitive in the mean that it was like in the golden ages, man wants woman and reverse. So instinctive, spontaneous.

And it was good. It was good, Oh God it was so good!
